Castwright is built so your books and your listening stay on devices you own. We run no servers that receive your manuscripts, your audio, or your library. The short version: the apps collect nothing about you, and there is no account to sign into.

What the Castwright apps collect: nothing

Neither the desktop app (Windows, macOS, Linux) nor the companion app (iOS and Android) collects personal data, and neither sends data to Castwright. There are no Castwright servers in the loop, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking or crash-reporting in either app.

Neither app tracks you across other companies' apps or websites, and neither uses an advertising identifier — there is nothing to track.

The companion app (iOS and Android)

The companion app does one thing: it plays the audiobooks you have already made, by talking to your own computer running Castwright, over your own network. No Castwright server is ever involved.

It asks for these permissions, and only uses them for what they say:

  • Camera — to scan the pairing QR code shown by your computer. The image is read on your device to find the code; it is not stored and never leaves your phone.
  • Local network and internet — to reach your paired computer over your Wi-Fi, and to check the app's pairing link against a single public file on castwright.ai. It connects to no other server.
  • Notifications and background activity — to keep a download or playback running when the app isn't in front.
  • Storage — to save the audiobooks you download and the details of your pairing on your device.

Everything the app keeps — downloaded audio, your library list, and the pairing key (held in your device's encrypted keystore) — lives on your phone. Unpairing clears the connection to your computer; uninstalling removes all of it.

The desktop app

Castwright generates audiobooks on your machine. Your books, voice models, and audio never leave your computer during normal use. If you choose to use the optional cloud analyzer for character detection, only chapter text is sent to Google's Gemini API under your own API key — Castwright neither receives nor stores it.

This website

This website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics — cookieless, no personal data, no cookie banner needed. We see aggregate visit counts and referrers; we cannot identify individual visitors. There are no tracking pixels, no ad networks, and no third-party analytics beyond Cloudflare. The only thing stored in your browser is your light or dark theme choice, kept on your device and never transmitted.

Children

Castwright is a tool for making and playing audiobooks; it is not directed to children under 13. We knowingly collect no personal data from anyone, children included.

What we hold about you

Because there are no accounts and no servers that receive your content, we hold essentially nothing. If you email us, we keep that correspondence so we can reply, and for no other purpose. We do not sell or share personal data — we have none to sell.

Castwright has no sign-up and no account to delete. The only data tied to you lives on your own devices, and you remove it by unpairing or uninstalling. If you used the optional cloud analyzer, that runs under your own Google API key — which you control and can revoke at any time.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll post the new version here with an updated date.
